Cook Islands

This should be on your bucketlist

The Cook Islands beckon with their breathtaking beauty and serene ambiance, offering an idyllic escape for travellers seeking paradise as either a bepoke destination or as part of a twin centre.

Nestled in the heart of the South Pacific, this collection of 15 islands boasts white sandy beaches, crystal-clear turquoise waters, and lush tropical landscapes ideal for hikes.

From the rugged peaks of Rarotonga to the secluded shores of Aitutaki, each island offers its own unique charm and adventure. Immerse yourself in the rich Polynesian culture through traditional dance performances, local markets brimming with handicrafts, and mouthwatering cuisine infused with tropical flavors.

Whether you’re seeking a romantic getaway, a family holiday, or a solo adventure, the Cook Islands promise an unforgettable experience filled with warmth, beauty, and endless opportunities for exploration in a totally uncommercialised destination where no building is bigger than a palm tree.

Many of the resorts on Rarotonga are now adult only, but I love the Pacific Hotel one of the last few remaining resorts to welcome families. With Paddleboarding and Kayaking facilities on the beach, there is lots to keep the kids and big kids entertained. There is also a complimentary kids club for children from ages 6 to 12. Activities there include traditional dancing, coconut husking, basket weaving and making flora head eis. For larger families they also have 3 bedroom villas on site that can cater for up to 7 guests.

If you are looking for an Aduly only vibe, you cannot go wrong with Manuia Beach Resort – their private infinity pool overlooks the sea is the perfect place to relax with a cocktail and a good book.

You cannot just visit one Cook Island after travelling all that way – I recommend combining with a a quick 45 min plane ride to Aitutaki. Home to only 1800 residents and famous for its gorgeous blue lagoon and distinct lack of any dogs on the island! Here I would recommend Tamanu Beach Resort, I really loved their casual luxury vibe and the fact the family areas is completely seperate to the adults only – so you dont have to worry about annoying your neighbours with your kids waking up too early! I’d highly recommend booking their Takyrua “Speacial Feast”, which is an opportunity to savour some true Aitutaki flavours followed by a performance of Cook Island songs and dancing – you may be asked to join in!

There is SO much more to the Cook Islands and having been lucky enough to explore it, I would love to chat to you about it more detail to help you plan the best possible trip.

Elle Says:

” The Cook Islands is a place that definitely holds my heart,  and one I would recommend to adventure loving families with children who are 12+, not because the cook islanders are not welcoming to children – its clear to see they asbolutely adore them – but it is a long journey and a little bit more remote. As as welcoming and inclusive destination I would whole heartedly recommend it.”

If you have any questions about this destination, then let me know. I can help you plan a holiday here and give you recommendations that you may not have thought of!
